Monthly Meeting Review

September 4, 2019

The meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge by Lodge President Steve Gaynor. Members enjoyed sandwiches, potato salad and desserts for dinner.

Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, October 2nd at 5:00 pm. All members are encouraged to join us prior to the meeting (1630 hrs) for dinner. Brother Ray Yeager won the $50 attendance award.

Lodge Business

Eleven new members were voted into the Lodge.

President Gaynor - discussed several items involving Cobb Public Safety. They included the potential payroll deduction plan for Lodge Dues and the Legal Defense Plan, discussion on the need for Step & Grade Plan, staffing shortage at Cobb PD and Cobb SO and Atlanta PD's proposed pay raise.

VP Jon Byrum - in process of working out details for implementation of the payroll deduction plan should it occur. 

Secretary Stephens - In process of preparing for the 2020 Per Capita payment. No current issues with membership. He acknowledge letters from the Acworth Police Department and Shriners Hospitals for the sponsorship/donation to their organization.

VP Byrum - Nothing to report

Treasurer Kelly - provided the members a review of our current finances. Both the Lodge and Charities Inc are in good financial condition. Copies are available at all lodge meetings.

Sgt at Arms Shrodes - Brother Shrodes assisted with the Acworth Police Departments "Shoot for the Horizon" event. He also assisted with the gathering of Back to School supplies for our upcoming program.

State Trustee Thompson - Has purchased and sorted all Back to School Supplies for our program. Members will be distributing the supplies to various schools in Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Co. Elementary Schools. Brother Thompson also advised members the National Convention will be in Indianapolis in 2021 and Las Vegas in 2023.

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month. POAB Application

New Business

Nominations for the new E-Board were held. Brother Steve Gaynor for President, Brother Jon Byrum for VP, Brother John McCraw for 2nd VP, Brother Jimmy Stephens for Treasurer, Brother Carl Dimare for Sgt. at Arms and Brother Kevin Shrodes for State Trustee. No other nominations were received for these position. All we be sworn in at the October Meeting. The Secretary and 2nd Sgt. at Arms position received no nominations and will remain open.

Sponsorships / Donations

Members voted to donate $300 to the Heartland Hospice Cares "Camp Caring Hearts". Shriners Hospitals in memory of our dear friend and lodge member Cathy Shrodes.

Membership Information

On April 11th a $32 penalty was instituted for those members who wish to rejoin Lodge 13 after their membership was inactivated due to non payment.

Legal Representation

All members are strongly encouraged to join the FOP Legal Defense Plan. For $68 a year (in addition to your dues) the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents) or civil action taken against the member. For $310 a year the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents), civil or administrative actions taken against the member. Many other benefits are provided when full coverage is purchased. Payment can be made either annually or semi-annually. Because of the number of members in our lodge these plans are only available at the individual rate. Sign up and payment to this plan is the sole responsibility of the member. Death Benefit/Beneficiary

All active members are requested to update their personal information and beneficiary information on an annual basis on our application form. The application form must be mailed to the Lodge Secretary. This can only be done on a paper application form and mailed to the lodge secretary. This record allows benefits to be paid in a timely manner.

Lifetime Membership

All members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years) must request it in writing. Please contact the Lodge Secretary if you need your join date.

Lodge Rentals

The lodge is for the exclusive use of our members and only available for rental by them. Please conact President Gaynor for cost if you wish to reserve the lodge.

Scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2020 on the Square in Marietta.

Cops & Kids Golf Tournament

Scheduled for Monday, September 16th at Governors Town Club in Acworth. Details are posted on our main webpage, "Upcoming Events" page and on our Facebook page. We will be co-hosting the event with the Cobb Community Policing Unit who will be raising funds for the School Lunch Program.

Annual Florida Trip

Scheduled for Sunday, December 15th from 1pm - 4pm at the lodge.

Scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th at the Target Store, 4125 Austell Rd., Austell Ga.
