Monthly Meeting Review

November 6, 2019

The meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge by Brother Stan Melton. Members enjoyed BBQ for dinner. Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, December 4th at 5:00 pm. All members are encouraged to join us prior to the meeting (1630 hrs) for dinner. Brother Steve Gaynor won the $50 attendance award.

Guest Speaker

Jason Marbutt, candidate for Judge, Cobb State Court spoke briefly to the members and introducted himself. He discussed his experience as an ADA in the Cobb District Attorney's Office. Members appreciated him taking time out to talk with us.

Lodge Business

Seven new members were voted into the Lodge.

President Gaynor - discussed several items involving Cobb Public Safety. They included the proposed for Step & Grade Plan, staffing shortage at Cobb PD and Cobb SO. The central theme seems to be the Commissioners do not seem to think there are critical issues within Cobb Public Safety in regards to staffing and benefits. He also reported the lodge received recognition Public Safety Awards meeting at the Chamber of Commerce, South Cobb Business Association, West Cobb Business Association and the Cobb Republican Women's Meeting in October. Brother Gaynor request the January Meeting be moved to January 8th due to the New Years Holiday. Membership approved the change of date.

VP Jon Byrum - Nothing to report

Secretary Stephens - Provided a membership report. All is in order.

Treasurer Kelly - Brother Kelly was out due to a medical issue. Brother Stephens provided an update on the lodge finances and expenditures. The lodge is in good financial condition. Reports are available at all monthly meetings.

Sgt at Arms Shrodes - Reviewed the upcoming Holiday Food Bag Program and a date to put the bags together.

State Trustee Thompson - Reported he checked the lodge on several occassions during the month.

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month. POAB Application

Membership Information

Yearly dues for our members in 2020 will continue to be $78 for active members and $35 for retired members. All 2020 payments will have a $3 convenience fee added to all payments received via our Paypal Account. On April 1st a $32 penalty will be added to the cost for all who have not paid their 2020 dues.

Legal Representation

All members are strongly encouraged to join the FOP Legal Defense Plan. For $68 a year (in addition to your dues) the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents) or civil action taken against the member. For $310 a year the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents), civil or administrative actions taken against the member. Many other benefits are provided when full coverage is purchased. Payment can be made either annually or semi-annually. Because of the number of members in our lodge these plans are only available at the individual rate. Sign up and payment to this plan is the sole responsibility of the member. Death Benefit/Beneficiary

All active members are requested to update their personal information and beneficiary information on an annual basis on our application form. The application form must be mailed to the Lodge Secretary. This can only be done on a paper application form and mailed to the lodge secretary. This record allows benefits to be paid in a timely manner.

Lifetime Membership

All members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years) must request it in writing. Please contact the Lodge Secretary if you need your join date.

Lodge Rentals

The lodge is for the exclusive use of our members and only available for rental by them. Please conact President Gaynor for cost if you wish to reserve the lodge.

Cops & Kids Shopping Program

Scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th at the Target Store, 4125 Austell Rd., Austell Ga.

Calvary Children's Home Shopping is scheduled for Friday, December 20th at the Target Store, E/W Connector @ Dallas Highway.

Cobb Law Enforcement Memorial

Scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2020 on the Square in Marietta.

Georgia State Conference

Scheduled to be held in Calloway Gardens June 15 - 18, 2020.

Cops & Kids Golf Tournament

Scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2020 at Governors Town Club in Acworth.

Annual Florida Trip

New Business

The following members were voted into leadership positions for the 2019 - 2021 term. President Steve Gaynor, VP Jon Byrum, 2nd VP John McCraw, Treasurer Jimmy Stephens, Sgt. at Arms Carl Dimare, 2nd Sgt at Arms Mark Matthews and State Trustee Kevin Shrodes. Brother Stephens will continue to fill in as the Lodge Secretary.
