Lodge Business

Fourteen new members were voted into the Lodge.

President Gaynor discussed the recent events at the Cobb Commissioner Meetings and various town hall meetings. His presentations are on our Facebook page for members to review. He also talked to the members about Chairman Boyce's recent claim comparing a parks employee leaving the county to a police officer leaving the county. He is requesting we have a huge showing at the May 28th @ 1830 hrs Commissioners Meeting to continue the pressure on the commissioners to solve the current Public Safety issues. President Gaynor also invited members to help pass out flyers at the upcoming Cobb Fun Fest Event at Jim Miller Park on May 4th from 10am - 4pm. The crowd is expected to be around 4,000 folks.

VP Byrum - addressed at length some of the effects with the shortage of officers at Cobb PD and his attendance at many of the Commissioners Town Hall Meetings and Commissioners Meetings. He also informed the membership the Blue Knights Motorcycle Ride was a huge success with over 700 motorcycles participating. A total of $27,000 was raised to help defray cost of family members attending Law Enforcement Memorial Week in Washington DC in memory of their fallen officer.

2nd VP McCraw - is recruting officers with the Board of Education to join the Legal Defense Plan. He also informed the members about the upcoming pay raises for Publice Safety and all employee's within the Cobb County School System.

Secretary Stephens - We currently have 58 members who have failed to pay their 2019 dues and have been inactivated on our Lodge roster. These individuals are no longer eligible for lodge benefits or to be members of the Legal Defense Plan. Inactivated members wishing to rejoin our lodge are subject to a $32 penalty for a total of $110 (active) and $67 (retired) to be reinstated. Finally, Secretary Stephens briefed the members on the hiring of Susan Warren as the Membership Coordinator for all membership matters.

Treasurer Kelly - provided the members a review of our current finances. Both the Lodge and Charities Inc are in good financial condition. Copies are available at all lodge meetings.

Sgt at Arms Shrodes - advised volunteers are needed for the May 9th Law Enforcement Memorial on the square in Marietta.

State Trustee Thompson - advised the Ford Mustang car show in July has been cancelled. Hopefully it can be rescheduled in the future.

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month.
