Monthly Meeting Review

February 5, 2020

The meeting was opened by Brother Gaynor. Members enjoyed a chili dinner. Congratulations to Patti Gaynor, Faith Norman and Kevin Shrodes who won the chili cookoff competition. Each won a $25 gift card from the Marietta Family Restaurants. Thanks to all who brought pots of chili. Brother Kevin Shrodes won the $50 attendance award.


The following candidates for Cobb State Court Judge spoke to the members: Jason Marbutt, Katherine "Trina" Griffiths, Kellie Hill, Maziar "Mazi" Mazloom and David Willingham. Craig Owens running for Cobb Co. Sheriff and Fitz Johnson running for Cobb Commissioner District 2 stopped by to introduce themselves to the members. We appreciate each candidate taking the time to talk to our members.

Lodge Business

Twelve new members were voted into the Lodge.

President Gaynor - asked any member interested in attending the Georia State FOP Conference June 14th - 17th in Callaway Gardens to contact him.

VP Jon Byrum - Provided a brief overiew of the Step and Grade voted on by the Cobb County Commissioners. He held a more extensive review with members interested at the end of the meeting.

2VP John McCraw - Not Present 

Secretary/Treasurer Stephens - Brother Stephens advised the new Charities website (www.lodge13copsandkids.org) is up and running.  It now provides a central point for all of our program information.  Brother Stephens as discussed the need to get a new Lodge website that can incorporate current technology.  Members approved the request to build the new lodge website. Brother Stephens reported both the Lodge and Charities Inc are in good financial condition.  Reports are available at all meetings.

Sgt at Arms Dimare - Not Present

2nd Sgt at Arms Matthews - Brother Matthews reported all was well with the lodge and at Douglas County.

State Trustee Shrodes - Brother Shrodes reported sufficient donations were raised to replace a headstone of a fallen sheriff in middle Georgia and additional donations were not needed.

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month. POAB Application

Sponsorships / Donations

Members voted a $300 sponsorship of the Cobb Explorer Post.

Membership Information

Yearly dues for our members in 2020 will continue to be $78 for active members and $35 for retired members. All online 2020 payments will have a $3 convenience fee added when using our Paypal Account. On April 1st a $32 penalty will be added to the cost for all who have not paid their 2020 dues.

Legal Representation

All members are strongly encouraged to join the FOP Legal Defense Plan. For $68 a year (in addition to your dues) the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents) or civil action taken against the member. For $310 a year the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents), civil or administrative actions taken against the member. Many other benefits are provided when full coverage is purchased. Payment can be made either annually or semi-annually. Because of the number of members in our lodge these plans are only available at the individual rate. Sign up and payment to this plan is the sole responsibility of the member. Death Benefit/Beneficiary

All active members are requested to update their personal information and beneficiary information on an annual basis on our application form. The application form must be mailed to the Lodge Secretary. This can only be done on a paper application form and mailed to the lodge secretary. This record allows benefits to be paid in a timely manner.

Lifetime Membership

All members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years) must request it in writing. Please contact the Lodge Secretary if you need your join date.

Lodge Rentals

The lodge is for the exclusive use of our members and only available for rental by them. Please conact President Gaynor for cost if you wish to reserve the lodge.

Scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2020 at Governors Town Club in Acworth.

Annual Florida Trip
