Monthly Meeting Review

February 7, 2018

The meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge by Lodge Chaplain Scotty Davis. Our next regular scheduled Lodge meeting is Wednesday, March 7th at 5:00 pm. All members are encouraged to join us prior to the meeting (1630 hrs) for dinner. Brother Carl Dimare won the $50 attendance award.

Lodge Business

Eight new members were accepted into the lodge.

Guest Speakers: Both candidates for Cherokee Co. Solicitor, Todd Hayes & Sarah Hobson spoke to the members about the qualifications and vision

Ramon Stone, President FOPA presented the lodge with an "Emergency Bag". She encouraged the lodge to purchase and store a few more

President Gaynor reviewed the OLOST that is being presented to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners by Commissioner Bob Weatherford. It appears this proposal has no support with the Georgia Legislature.

President Gaynor reviewed the recent Commissioners Meeting which addressed the pay discrepancy with Cobb PD Sgt & Lt's pay. The vote was approve solving this issue was 3 (Commissioner Ott, Birrell & Weatherford) voting yes and 2 (Chairman Boyce & Commissioner Cupid) voting no. Many thanks to the three commissioners who support Public Safety on addressing this issue.

All members are reminded as of January 1, 2018 the lodge no longer provides representation at the local level. All member are encouraged to join the Legal Defense Plan.

Current membership in the lodge is 650+

Treasurer Kelly provided the members a review of our current finances. All is well and in good order. The Lodge and Charities Inc continue to be in good financial condition. Copies are available at all lodge meetings.

President Gaynor advised all pending IRS issues have been addressed. Great work by the team getting these resolved.

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month.

New Business

Members were advised the July 4th meeting has been moved to July 11th due to the holiday.

Membership Information

Dues for 2018 continue to be $78 for active officers and $35 for retired officers. The definition between active and retired officers is if you are still carrying a gun and performing law enforcement duties then you are considered an active officer.

Legal Representation

After many months of discussion our members voted to discontinue the legal representation that was available from our local lodge to members as part of their $78 yearly dues on January 1, 2018.

In its place all members are strongly encouraged to join the FOP Legal Defense Plan. For $68 a year (in addition to your dues) the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents) or civil action taken against the member. For $282 a year the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents), civil or administrative actions taken against the member. Many other benefits are provided when full coverage is purchased. Payment can be made either annually or semi-annually. Because of the number of members in our lodge these plans are only available at the individual rate. Sign up and payment to this plan is the sole responsibility of the member. Death Benefit/Beneficiary

All active members are requested to update their personal information and beneficiary information on an annual basis on our application form. The application form must be mailed to the Lodge Secretary. This can only be done on a paper application form and mailed to the lodge secretary. This record allows benefits to be paid in a timely manner.

Lifetime Membership

All members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years) must request it in writing. Please contact the Lodge Secretary if you need your join date.

Lodge Rentals

The lodge is for the exclusive use of our members and only available for rental by them. Please conact President Gaynor for cost if you wish to reserve the lodge.

Scheduled for Thursday, May 10th at 7:30pm on the Square in Marietta. Guest Speaker will be Brother Jack Forsyth & Roger Parker (COPS)

Washington DC Law Enforcement Memorial

All arrangements are being handled by Brother Jon Byrum

State Conference:

Scheduled for June 10-14, 2018 at Unicoy State Park. Details will be announced as we get closer.

Cops & Kids Charity Golf Tournament:

Tenatively scheduled for Monday, June 25th at Brookstone Country Club. Details will be announced as we get closer.

Annual Trip to Florida

Members voted to donate $300 to the Cobb County Classroom to Courtroom program.
