Monthly Meeting Review

August 7, 2019

The meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge by Lodge Chaplain Scotty Davis. Members enjoyed a BBQ Chicken Dinner prior to the meeting. Many thanks to Marietta Womens Club and Tonya Williams of Sweet T's Treats for the cookies. Thanks to Patti Gaynor and Susan Warren for providing the sides and organizing the dinner.


Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, September 4th at 5:00 pm. All members are encouraged to join us prior to the meeting (1630 hrs) for dinner. Brother Bobby Holmes won the $50 attendance award.

Lodge Business

Eleven new members were voted into the Lodge.

President Gaynor discussed several items involving Cobb Public Safety. They included the upcoming lump sum payment of $1,475 and 7% pay raise for Public Safety Personnel. Several rumors within the department were addressed. In addition he discussed several issues such as POAB payroll deduction from payroll and the Step & Grade plan. He reminded members elections for 2019-2020 Executive Board will be held at Sept 4th meeting.  Finally the next State Executive Board Meeting will be held at our lodge on September 20th & 21st. As the host of the meeting members approved purchasing fund for the attendee's lunch.  

Secretary Stephens - Advised we currently have 811 members including those who joined at the meeting. Our growth in membership and those choosing to the join the Legal Defense Plan has been amazing.

VP Byrum - Nothing to report

Treasurer Kelly - provided the members a review of our current finances. Both the Lodge and Charities Inc are in good financial condition. Copies are available at all lodge meetings.

Sgt at Arms Shrodes - Brother Shrodes thanked everyone for all they did for him and his family during the loss of his wife Cathy. The donations have been flowing in to the Shriners Hospital in memory of Cathy.

State Trustee Thompson - Reviewed the status of purchasing items for our Back to School Program

All active Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Georgia, regardless of your affiliation with the lodge should join the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. This very low cost fund provides another piece to the puzzle of our officers overall retirement picture. Current cost is only $20 per month.

New Business

Nominations for the new E-Board will be Monday, September 4th with the vote being finalized by Monday, October 4th. Members wishing to run must have attended at lease six meetings during the year to become eligible.

Sponsorships / Donations

Members voted to donate $300 to the Shriners Hospitals in memory of our dear friend and lodge member Cathy Shrodes.

Members voted to donate $300 to the Paulding Co. PB Ritch Jr. Law Enforcement Academy.

Membership Information

On April 11th a $32 penalty was instituted for those members who wish to rejoin Lodge 13 after their membership was inactivated due to non payment.

Legal Representation

All members are strongly encouraged to join the FOP Legal Defense Plan. For $68 a year (in addition to your dues) the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents) or civil action taken against the member. For $310 a year the member will be enrolled in UNLIMITED legal coverage for any criminal (includes Critical Incidents), civil or administrative actions taken against the member. Many other benefits are provided when full coverage is purchased. Payment can be made either annually or semi-annually. Because of the number of members in our lodge these plans are only available at the individual rate. Sign up and payment to this plan is the sole responsibility of the member. Death Benefit/Beneficiary

All active members are requested to update their personal information and beneficiary information on an annual basis on our application form. The application form must be mailed to the Lodge Secretary. This can only be done on a paper application form and mailed to the lodge secretary. This record allows benefits to be paid in a timely manner.

Lifetime Membership

All members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years) must request it in writing. Please contact the Lodge Secretary if you need your join date.

Lodge Rentals

The lodge is for the exclusive use of our members and only available for rental by them. Please conact President Gaynor for cost if you wish to reserve the lodge.

Scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2020 on the Square in Marietta.

National FOP Conference

Will be held in New Orleans from August 11-15, 2019. Brother Ken Kelly, Kevin Shrodes, Carl Dimare, Lance LoRusso, Mike Brice, Steve Gaynor and David Stone will be our delegates for the National Conference.

Cops & Kids Golf Tournament

Scheduled for Monday, September 16th at Governors Town Club in Acworth. Details are posted on our main webpage, "Upcoming Events" page and on our Facebook page. We will be co-hosting the event with the Cobb Community Policing Unit who will be raising funds for the School Lunch Program.

Annual Florida Trip

Scheduled for Sunday, December 15th from 1pm - 4pm at the lodge.
